With just a few seconds of planning, it can be easy to keep the kids busy in typically boring situations.
Grocery Store Games
- Catch a color, size, shape, texture, amount
- Hunt a letter or word
- Grocery bingo
- Alphabet scavenger hunt: Write letters around a paper plate and cut each letter into a tab. The child can fold in each letter as they find it or something that starts with it or find that letter on a product
Waiting Rooms
- Listen carefully to all the noises in the room
- Gently touch individual objects in the room and name the textures
- Make up an exercise for different parts of the body
- With your finger, outline a shape on your child’s back and see if he can tell what you’ve “drawn”
Mall Games
- Point out shapes and patterns of repeating shapes
- Count people – how many red shoes? someone with a backpack?
- How many times he can quietly sing his favorite song before arriving at the next stop? Make guesses first!
Restaurants
- Activity placemats
- Card games: Uno, Go Fish, etc
- Discussion starter cards
