Using your hands, gently mix ground beef, Italian seasoning, garlic, salt and pepper; divide mixture in half. Press meat mixture into two 9″ round cake pans, pressing evenly to edges.
Bake 15 minutes.
Using a wide spatula, remove each baked meat crust to a baking sheet. Spread a thin layer of pasta sauce onto each meat crust. Add cheese and desired amount of pepperoni.
Return to oven and bake 2–3 minutes longer.
Sprinkle with basil, if desired; cut into wedges.
