Press dough in a greased pan. Arrange apple slices in rows on top of the dough.
In a small bowl, combine sugar, flour, and cinnamon; mix well. With a pastry blender or fork, cut in butter until the mixture is crumbly. Sprinkle evenly over apples. Cover loosely with plastic wrap and a cloth towel. Let rise in a warm place (80–85°F) until light and doubled in size, 40–45 minutes.
Heat oven to 375°F. Uncover the dough. Bake for 30–40 minutes or until the edges are golden brown and the apples are tender.
In a small bowl, blend powdered sugar and enough milk for desired drizzling consistency. Drizzle over warm coffee cake.
